Angel One and Zerodha are expanding access to the US stock markets for Indian investors, as domestic brokerages look to tap into the growing demand for international equities and portfolio diversification.
Angel One has begun rolling out US stock investing on its app, allowing users to invest in US-listed stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) alongside their Indian portfolios. The facility is currently available to a limited group of users, with a wider rollout expected by mid-November.
Investors will be able to buy shares of companies such as Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon, Nvidia, Netflix, Spotify and Toyota. The platform will also support fractional investing, allowing users to purchase a portion of a share rather than an entire unit.
Meanwhile, Zerodha has also launched US stock investing in beta, offering access to around 2,000 US-listed stocks and 1,000 ETFs through its platform. The move gives Indian investors another avenue to access global businesses, particularly in sectors such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and semiconductors.
The expansion follows regulatory approval from the International Financial Services Centres Authority for brokers to offer international investing through GIFT City in Gujarat.
Angel One will waive brokerage charges until December 2026. From January 2027, it will charge 0.1% per trade, subject to a minimum brokerage of $0.99. Account opening, maintenance, deposits, and withdrawals will be free, although regulatory charges, GST, and foreign-exchange conversion costs will apply.
Zerodha's offering is being introduced in beta, with brokerage and other applicable charges governed by its published pricing structure.
Investments through these platforms are subject to the Reserve Bank of India's Liberalised Remittance Scheme and applicable regulatory requirements. Angel One has also said eligible US securities will carry Securities Investor Protection Corporation protection of up to $500,000, subject to applicable conditions.
The launches reflect a broader push by Indian investment platforms to expand beyond domestic equities as retail investors seek exposure to global markets. Platforms including Groww, Upstox and INDmoney also offer routes to international investing, intensifying competition in the segment.
