British shoppers are set to spend a record £93.76bn over the six-week Christmas period, which is 2.9 per cent more than last year, despite facing cost of living pressures, according to a new study.
The 2026 Shopping for Christmas Report by discount site VoucherCodes.co.uk, reveals that the average shopper will fork out £1,411 per person over the six-week festive period from mid-November to the end of December.
Britons will on average spend an extra £39.77 more per person than in 2025, the survey concluded.
Presents are set to account for 50 per cent of all festive household spending. Gift sales are expected to increase by 3.3 per cent, rising from £11.59bn last year to £11.97bn, according to the study.

Clair Hughes, Savings Expert at VoucherCodes.co.uk, said: “If there’s one thing Brits universally love, it’s going all out at Christmas time.
"From the traditional Christmas dinner to the annual school nativity, we don’t do half measures when it comes to celebrating the most magical time of the year.
“But with the cost of living showing no signs of relief this Christmas, the pressure of delivering a perfect Christmas gets harder each year. Our report found 70 per cent of Britons like to get the best deals when buying Christmas presents, and starting your shopping early really is the best way.”
