Gladiator II on Netflix is the streaming news many film fans waited for. Ridley Scott’s sequel arrives on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, almost two years after its theatrical run. Gladiator II opened in theaters in November 2024, so the move to streaming comes after a full theater run.
The original Gladiator joins the same day, so viewers can watch both films back to back. This guide covers the release date, cast, story setup, box office numbers, and who should press play.
Gladiator II Netflix Release Date and Where It Will Stream
Netflix lists Gladiator II for October 21, 2026, in its October schedule. The date is just days away. The film runs 148 minutes, so viewers should plan a full evening.

Cast and Crew: Who Returns for the Sequel
Ridley Scott directs again, with a script by David Scarpa. Paul Mescal leads the film as Lucius, the exiled Roman prince. Pedro Pascal plays General Marcus Acacius, and Denzel Washington plays Macrinus, a former slave who plots against the twin emperors.
Joseph Quinn and Fred Hechinger play the twin emperors, Geta and Caracalla. Connie Nielsen returns from the first film as Lucilla. The ensemble also includes Peter Mensah and Rory McCann in supporting roles. Many reviews single out Washington’s performance, and one calls him the most sinister figure in the franchise.
The mix of rising stars such as Mescal and Quinn with veterans like Washington and Nielsen gives the film a wide pull for both younger and older viewers.

Story Setup Without Spoilers
The story picks up years after the first film. Lucius is taken prisoner when Roman forces invade his home, and he is forced to fight in the arena. His goal is revenge against Acacius, the general who led the attack.
The first film ended with the death of Maximus, so the sequel moves its focus to Lucius, who watched that moment as a boy. Newcomers can follow the plot without rewatching, though a quick recap adds context.
The film leans on spectacle. Viewers can expect a mock sea battle inside the Colosseum, fights with baboons, and a gladiator riding a rhino. The sea battle has roots in real Roman events, though the film adds plenty of drama.

Box Office Numbers and Critic Reaction
Gladiator II earned more than USD 460 million worldwide, according to Collider. Reports put its budget near USD 250 million. Studios usually need to earn well above the budget to profit, so the run was solid rather than record-setting.
Critic and fan scores were mixed. The sequel holds an IMDb rating of 6.4, compared with 8.5 for the original. Reviews praise the scale and Washington’s performance, while many agree it falls short of the first film.
The production also built a large Colosseum set, with the upper levels added digitally, according to German coverage. Streaming often gives a film a second life, so the Netflix debut could lift its audience well beyond the box office total.

Should You Watch It? Tips Before Pressing Play
Fans who want a fun, well-made action film will likely enjoy it. Viewers who expect the same emotional weight as the 2000 original may feel let down. Russell Crowe, who won an Oscar as Maximus, has said the first film succeeded thanks to its moral core.
A smart plan is to watch Gladiator first, since both arrive on October 21. This order makes the callbacks in the sequel easier to catch. Reports also say a third film is already in the works, so now is a good time to catch up.
Viewers with limited time can watch the sequel alone, at 148 minutes. Those who want the full story can add the original, which runs about 155 minutes.

Gladiator II on Netflix gives viewers an easy way to enjoy Ridley Scott’s big Roman sequel at home. It arrives on October 21, 2026, with the original film alongside it.
