Agartala, October 12, 2026: Tripura Congress leaders joined the party’s protest in New Delhi on October 10, intensifying their campaign against the Election Commission over alleged electoral irregularities and demanding the resignation and arrest of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Led by TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, the state leaders participated in the demonstration organised under the leadership of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The protesters also called for the withdrawal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, raising concerns over its implications for voters and the democratic process.
Saha accused the BJP of allegedly using the office of the Chief Election Commissioner to influence election outcomes. He demanded accountability from the country’s top political leadership, seeking the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over what he termed a conspiracy to undermine democratic institutions.
The TPCC president said Congress leaders from Tripura had travelled to the national capital to register their opposition to the alleged irregularities. He warned that the party would expand its agitation if its demands remained unaddressed.
Appealing to citizens to support the movement, Saha maintained that the struggle was intended to safeguard democracy and uphold the Constitution.
Roy Barman, meanwhile, said Congress leaders had gathered in Delhi under the slogan “No SIR”, pressing for the withdrawal of the electoral roll revision exercise. He questioned the functioning of the Election Commission and alleged that manipulation of electoral processes was weakening public confidence in elections.
Accusing the BJP of benefiting from alleged electoral fraud and depriving voters of their rightful voice, the Congress MLA said the party had taken to the streets to raise public concerns and demand a transparent electoral system.
Both leaders reiterated that the Congress would continue its campaign until its concerns regarding electoral integrity and institutional accountability were addressed.
The allegations against the BJP and the Election Commission were made by Congress leaders during the protest and were not independently established in the statements provided.
