Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff narrowly escaped injury after three motorcycle-borne men allegedly opened fire at his car in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening, leaving his driver injured.
The incident triggered strong reactions from members of the film industry, with celebrities expressing concern over the attack and the safety of film personalities.
Ranvir Shorey took to X to express his shock and called for strict action against those responsible. “Shocking, and disgusting! Hope everyone is safe, @iTIGERSHROFF @bindasbhidu! No mercy for the perpetrators, @MumbaiPolice! This is outrageous,” he wrote.
Raees helmer Rahul Dholakia questioned the law and order situation in the city and criticised the alleged targeting of innocent people. “What kind of Law and order is this ?? The ones who are harmless are sent to jail - the ones who are criminals are shooting innocents on the street ! A gangster who is in Jail openly threatens Bollywood and shoots at will -and we just allow fear to spread ! Who is answerable ?? @AmitShah @Dev_Fadnavis could u please address the state / city / resident of Juhu?? Or are you still worried about harmless flag walkers! #TigerShroff #shootinginJuhu.”
Actor and BJP MP Ravi Kishan also condemned the attack and expressed confidence that the Maharashtra Police would bring the perpetrators to justice.
Speaking to the media at Patna airport, Kishan said, “It is a matter of great concern and a matter for investigation. We have full faith in the Maharashtra Police. An investigation will take place, and those found guilty will receive the harshest possible punishment. It is a deeply concerning and serious matter”.
“Tiger is a very innocent person. I pray to Mahadev and Mata Rani to protect him. The Maharashtra Police and the Maharashtra government are leaving no stone unturned. Very soon, all those responsible will be caught and given the severest punishment,” he added.
Ashoke Pandit said the firing incident had heightened fear within the film industry. “This incident is deeply concerning, as it involves a direct threat to someone’s life. In broad daylight, in a public space, individuals armed with weapons arrived and opened fire”.
“An atmosphere of fear has taken hold within our industry; there is no doubt about that...A 'fear psychosis' is being created within our industry—reminiscent of the 1980s and 90s, when the underworld held sway, using threats and intimidation...I believe it is absolutely essential to eliminate such forces. I have full confidence that the Mumbai Police are capable of handling this,” he added.
Actor Ravi Dubey hoped the accused would be arrested soon. “This is a major security lapse. I haven’t spoken to Tiger yet. In fact, I was going to call Jackie sir (Shroff). The good thing is that Tiger is safe and sound. His driver, however, sustained injuries, and I hope he recovers soon. I hope that those who committed this act are caught immediately. That would bring a sense of relief to everyone.”
Telugu actor and producer Vishnu Manchu took to X and wrote, “Grateful to God that @iTIGERSHROFF is safe. Wishing him strength and praying for his speedy recovery. No one should have to fear for their safety while going about their work or living their life. Incidents like these affect not only the person involved, but their family and the entire film fraternity.”
Film workers body the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) on Monday condemned the firing on the Bollywood star.
"Such acts of violence and intimidation are completely unacceptable and raise serious concerns about the safety and security of personalities associated with the Indian film industry. It is deeply disturbing that this is the second such incident involving a prominent personality from the film industry, following the earlier firing incident involving renowned filmmaker Mr Rohit Shetty. The recurrence of such incidents is a matter of grave concern and calls for immediate, decisive and effective action by the concerned authorities," read a statement issued by FWICE.
