Eugenio Chacarra overcame neck pain, a broken toe and the loss of a loved one to triumph at the DP World India Championship. Just 10 days ago, his grandfather, who played a major role in his golf journey, passed away.
An emotional Chacarra dedicated his triumph to his grandfather. “What happened was unexpected, but my grandfather had a great life. He taught me a lot and had a great impact on me. I dedicate this trophy to him,” the Spaniard said on Sunday.
Chacarra also spoke of his love for India, where he claimed his maiden DP World Tour title at the 2025 Hero Indian Open at the DLF Golf and Country Club near here.
“It feels great to be here. India has been awesome to me. This country changed my life last year when I won at the Hero Indian Open, and it has happened again here. I’m so proud of this win. I always love coming to India. I love the people, the food, the greens, the golf courses. I’m excited to come back next year,” the 26-year-old said.
With his fourth DP World Tour title in the bag, Chacarra is well placed to emerge as the 2026 Race to Dubai champion, an honour awarded to the player who finishes the season atop the tour’s rankings.
“It feels great to lead the race. But there is a lot left. There are two big events with a lot of points on offer. I have two of the best players in the world — Rory (McIlroy) and Patrick (Reed) — fairly close behind me. I need to keep working and getting better and hopefully get it done,” Chacarra said.
