Euticals Mutethia, who recently earned a diploma in Land Survey from Karumo TTI, visited the graves of his parents on his graduation day, arriving in his full academic regalia.
The two graves lay side by side, and he stood between them for a photograph before doing something that has since moved thousands of people online.
He removed his graduation gown and laid it flat across both graves, a quiet, powerful gesture that needed no lengthy explanation.

According to the inscription on one of the headstones, Mutethia's father passed away in May 2025, meaning he did not live to witness his son graduate.
The loss was still raw, yet Mutethia channelled his grief into an act of honour rather than sorrow. In a Facebook post accompanying the emotional photographs, he wrote:
"They graduated; I just represented them. Congratulations to mum and dad, and may their souls rest in peace; we started, you took rest on the way, God did the finishing."
The caption reframed the entire achievement, positioning his parents as the true graduates and himself simply as their representative on earth. It was a tribute that resonated with many who came across the post.
The photographs spread quickly, drawing an outpouring of condolences, admiration and encouragement from across the country.
Judy Kirito wrote:
"Did you know why you made it through? It's simply bcoz God never rests because of u. He covered the gap they left. You're never alone. He is always everywhere within you. Never be afraid. He is not over you. This is just a beginning; He has much more for u. To Ur parents, we still honour them for bringing such a champion to this world. We see them through you."
Chris Mwirigi, who knew Mutethia from college, added:
"Take heart, my brother; you've always won, and you'll keep winning, bro. You're such a brother; since we met in college, you've been my role model. Your dad and mum are celebrating you in heaven, brother you are the true definition of her."
Keffah Nick said:
"The most painful photos I have encountered Facebook today, congratulations bro, you made them proud."
Ken David offered:
"Pole bro.Simba, may Almighty God grant and help give you favour, strength and power to win everything, may their souls continue resting in peace and many congratulations to you."
For Mutethia, the diploma was not his alone. It belonged to the two people who started the journey with him, even if they could not be there to see him cross the finish line.
