October the 18th, 2026 – Significant changes have arrived for Croatian Wolt users who want to order alcoholic or energy drinks using the platform.
The delivery platform Wolt has introduced mandatory age verification for all of the service’s users in Croatia who order alcoholic and energy drinks via its app or website. As they reported in a notice to users, the new rules are being introduced in order to comply with new legal regulations in Croatia, and adulthood will no longer be able to be confirmed simply by ticking a box, but exclusively by connecting to the state mGrađani system. Index reports that Wolt emphasises that the check is quick and secure and that through this process the platform receives only the information whether the buyer meets the age requirement of 18 years, without insight into other personal data.
how does it work?
Age verification is carried out at the last step before completing the order itself. The user selects the option “Confirm your age”, after which Wolt redirects them to the mGrađani app. If the order is made via a computer, a QR code appears on the screen that needs to be scanned with a mobile phone. If ordering directly from a mobile phone via the Wolt app, the system automatically offers to open the mGrađani app. After the user logs in with their credentials and clicks on authorisation, the system sends confirmation to Wolt, and the buyer returns to the basket and completes the payment.
without an oib or mGrađani, alcohol and energy drinks can’t be ordered
Wolt notes that those who do not have the mGrađani app installed or do not complete the verification process will not be able to complete an order that contains alcohol or energy drinks at all. They also stress that for a successful check it is necessary to have an OIB, and they advise users who encounter technical difficulties to check whether they have updated both the mGrađani app and the Wolt app itself on their mobile phone.
