Jon Sumrall and his squad make their way to Texas, as the Florida Gators visit Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns on Saturday afternoon. It is time to continue the NCAA Football odds series with a Florida-Texas prediction and pick.
Florida enters the game sitting at 4-2. They started the season with a 66-21 win over the Florida Atlantic Owls in Week 1. They secured a 52-3 blowout win over Campbell, squeezed out a 44-39 nailbiter at Auburn, then put together an incredible display in their 52-28 upset win over Ole Miss in Week 4. This allowed them to jump all the way up to No. 8 in the latest AP Top 25 poll. However, they have since fallen out of the rankings following losses to Missouri (45-17) and South Carolina (38-19).
Meanwhile, Texas stands at 4-1. They dominated Texas State in the opening 59-7 win, stunned then-No. 1 Ohio State 24-23, blew out UTSA 30-6, and beat then-No. 14 Tennessee 20-17. This allowed them to take over the top spot in the AP Top 25. However, their perfect start came to an end after losing to Oklahoma 27-24, resulting in them falling down to No. 7 in the latest poll.

Keys to Florida vs. Texas footballmatchup
The Gators hope to have their leading receiver, Vernell Brown III, who strained a knee against Ole Miss. He has 17 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns to go with two punt return TDs. Florida running back Jadan Baugh has shot into contention for the Doak Walker Award, given to the nation’s top running back. He’s No. 2 nationally in rushing with 600 yards through his first four games, and he has a nation-leading 11 touchdown runs. However, he has since recorded just 72 yards and a touchdown in the latest defeats to Missouri and South Carolina, emphasizing a need to bounce back. Aaron Philo has been strong with his performances at quarterback, throwing for 1,341 yards and nine touchdowns and three interceptions while adding three rushing scores to his name.
The Gators’ defensive struggles have been significantly noticeable for opponents to exploit. Florida ranks last in the SEC in total defense and had more than 20 missed tackles last week against South Carolina. Myles Graham stands out as the star tackle on the Florida defense. He has racked up 41 tackles, 2.5 sacks and one fumble recovery. Jayden Woods stands out as a solid pass rusher, recording up to 24 tackles, 4.5 sacks and a forced fumble.
The Longhorns aren’t scaring anyone on offense and Sarkisian has come under fire for his play calling. Texas ranks 12th in the SEC in total offense at 379 yards per game. Texas needs Arch Manning to recover from his disastrous mistakes against Oklahoma, which could enter the spotlight again given Florida’s pass rushing ability. This season has him throwing for 1,122 yards and 10 touchdowns and five interceptions while rushing 39 times for 102 yards. Hollywood Smothers and Raleek Brown lead the run game with over 200 yards each and six combined touchdowns. As for the receivers, Cam Coleman tops the chart with 318 yards on 17 catches for five touchdowns. Ryan Wingo follows suit with 21 receptions for 296 yards and three touchdowns.
Texas needs its defense to be sharp, especially when facing an explosive attack like the Gators. Rasheem Biles looks to play a crucial role, leading the team in tackles with 41 while having two interceptions, one sack and a forced fumble to his name. Colin Simmons will be active with his pass-rushing, boasting 17 tackles, 9.5 sacks and two forced fumbles. As for the secondary, Graceson Littleton leads with four pass deflections and an interception.
Florida vs. Texas Prediction and Pick
This matchup between Florida and Texas stands out as an intriguing matchup. Jon Sumrall and the Gators need a ranked win to get their season back on track. Meanwhile, the Longhorns attempt to recover from an embarrassing collapse to Oklahoma on the road. Both SEC squads need a return to the win column, indicating that they will put a lot on the table to come out of the game with the victory. Anticipate adjustments from the Longhorns as they look at defenses that were successful in slowing down Florida in past contests. Texas gets the win in this one and covers, while the over hits.
Final Florida vs. Texas Prediction and Pick: Texas -11 (-115) and over 51.5 (-111)
