Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday agreed in principle to reduce deployment of security forces in Siang Valley and withdraw FIRs registered in connection with the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) protests.

The Chief Minister said he received requests in this regard from the Adi Baane Kebang Youth Wing (ABKYW) and the Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU).
“I have received requests from the Adi Baane Kebang Youth Wing (ABKYW) and the Adi Students’ Union (AdiSU) for reduction in the deployment of security forces in Siang valley and withdrawal of FIRs,” Khandu said.

“I agree to these proposals in principle as confidence-building measures to facilitate dialogue. I look forward to both organisations working constructively to create an atmosphere of trust and dialogue in the Siang Valley,” he added.
Emphasizing dialogue, Khandu said, “Dialogue requires trust and mutual understanding. We remain committed to dialogue, consent and finding a constructive way forward.”
