As Kentucky Basketball fans wait to see when Mark Pope will land his next commitment in the class of 2027, one highly touted recruit appears to be nearing a decision.
According to Joe Tipton of On3, 5-star point guard and top-10 recruit Reese Alston is set to make his college decision soon. Alston stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 175 pounds. He is ranked No. 9 nationally, the No. 3 point guard in the class and the No. 1 overall player in Texas.
Alston initially included seven schools on his list, but he made visits to only five: Louisville, Wichita State, LSU, Tennessee, and Kentucky.
Pope and his staff managed to get Alston on campus for an official visit that caught many by surprise. However, that visit does not appear to have significantly changed his recruitment, as Alston still seems to be deciding between LSU and Louisville, according to Tipton.
One positive for Kentucky is that its backcourt remains in a strong position with Zoom Diallo, Alex Wilkins, and Mason Williams all having plenty of eligibility remaining. The Wildcats may not necessarily need to add another guard, provided their current players continue to develop and perform at a high level.
For now, Kentucky fans may have to keep waiting for the program’s next commitment in the 2027 class. The Wildcats have just one pledge so far: five-star small forward Ryan Hampton.
