The New England Patriots did not conduct more than a walkthrough on Monday, but head coach Mike Vrabel’s active roster did so down five.
Offensive linemen Ben Brown and Alijah Vera-Tucker, defensive tackle Joshua Farmer, cornerback Carlton Davis III and kicker Andy Borregales were listed as non-participants on the first injury report of a short week that will end at Soldier Field.
That’s the damage after the organization placed wide receiver Romeo Doubs on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury he sustained on a 42-yard touchdown.
Here’s the early estimations ahead of Thursday’s 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff against the Chicago Bears.
DID NOT PARTICIPATE
Patriots
- G Ben Brown (knee)
- G Alijah Vera-Tucker (hamstring)
- DT Joshua Farmer (personal)
- CB Carlton Davis III (neck)
- K Andy Borregales (personal)
Bears
- RB Kyle Monangai (thumb, toe)
- G Jonah Jackson (hip, quadricep)
- LB T.J. Edwards (hamstring)
- LB Jack Sanborn (concussion)
A critical mass has been reached along an offensive line that did not give up a sack Sunday at Gillette Stadium. Three starters were ruled out on the way to what became a 26-19 AFC East win over the New York Jets. It’d be an ankle injury for Moses, a hamstring injury for Vera-Tucker and a knee injury for Brown. Two of whom weren’t on hand Monday. The losses at right tackle, left guard and right guard had resulted in more musical chairs around center Jared Wilson from the second quarter through the fourth quarter. Rookie No. 28 overall pick Caleb Lomu went from reporting as an eligible tight end to playing bookend. And in stepped October signing Matt Pryor and August trade acquisition Walter Rouse to fill the gaps along the interior of the pass protection.
The first touchdown scorer of the afternoon also soon departed. Doubs, who stands tied for the Patriots’ lead with three TD catches, now heads to injured reserve less than 48 hours after the team’s No. 1 wide receiver made his return to the 53-man roster. And while New England’s secondary welcomed back All-Pro Christian Gonzalez for the 1 p.m. ET divisional kickoff, two cornerbacks had been ruled out before then.
LIMITED PARTICIPATION
Patriots
- WR A.J. Brown (ankle)
- OT Morgan Moses (foot)
- CB Karon Prunty (hamstring)
- CB Channing Canada (hamstring)
Bears
- No players listed
The four partial participants for Monday’s walkthrough would notably include Moses. The 35-year-old captain at right tackle has dealt with ankle and foot ailments in recent weeks. The result was nine offensive snaps against the Jets.
Count a pair Patriots cornerbacks among the limited, as well, but not Davis. The veteran starter has missed back-to-back games due to a neck injury, while a rookie fifth-rounder in Prunty has missed back-to-back games due to a hamstring injury. The latter returned for the initial session of the condensed week.
FULL PARTICIPATION
Patriots
- QB Drake Maye (right shoulder)
- RB TreVeyon Henderson (ankle)
- OT Will Campbell (knee)
- OT Marcus Bryant (ankle — IR return)
- LB Dre’Mont Jones (shoulder)
- LB Christian Elliss (chest)
- S Kevin Byard III (chest)
- S Craig Woodson (shoulder)
Bears
- LB Keyshaun Elliott (quadricep)
- CB Tyrique Stevenson Sr. (hip)
Eight full participants were in the Monday forecast in Foxborough. That group would include the No. 4 overall pick and the No. 38 overall pick from the 2025 NFL draft class.
Campbell played all 68 offensive snaps on the blindside the afternoon prior despite being questionable with a knee injury. As for Henderson, he accounted for 40 yards from scrimmage in the backfield despite being questionable with a high ankle sprain. Neither the LSU product nor the Ohio State product missed a practice last week. They’ve since graduated from the limited.
