Quite a massive win for the Texans across the pond. Going to venerated Wembley Stadium, facing off against the division-leading Jaguars, who had the advantage of having played in England the week prior and didn’t have to worry about their body clocks, and managing to get away with a win was huge for the Texans. Houston, now at 2-4 but having won two straight road games against division rivals, returns to NRG Stadium to host the New York Giants of New Jersey.
The Giants, sitting at 3-2-1, come into this matchup atop the NFC East, despite not winning in their last two games, a tie at Washington and a loss against New Orleans. In their last game, they fell to the Saints 34-27, but the Saints held a lead of 34-10 at one point in the 4th Quarter. The Giants, forced to start backup QB Jameis Winston since starter Jaxson Dart went down with a season-ending injury, decided to give recent trade acquisition J.J. McCarthy a chance in the 4th quarter. McCarthy went 11-of-21 for 243 yards for 1 TD and 1 INT, and had the Giants in position to possibly tie or win on the final Giants’ drive of the game. The New York/New Jersey sports pages will have themselves a field day talking about the QB spot in this coming week.
Likely because of that QB uncertainty, along with Houston’s recent winning streak and the supposed talent disparity, the opening odds from FanDuel for the upcoming matchup between the Texans and the Giants are strongly supporting Houston at home:

Overall, this may seem a bit high of an opening line. The Giants haven’t played as difficult a schedule as Houston and they are coming in with key injuries and roster concerns. However, the Texans, even coming off a huge win against Jacksonville, are still struggling on defense and sit at 0-3 at home. They have only beaten the Giants once in 6 total meetings, and that was in 2002. Sandwiched between an international game and a bye week, this has the feel of a trap game for Houston. This particular line may tighten a bit as the week progresses, especially as the Giants sort out their QB situation and both teams sort out their respective injury situations.
