The US government has been urged to release more details from the UFO files to reduce public "anxiety".
Jennice Vilhauer, a psychologist who sits on the advisory board of the Disclosure Foundation and is part of US President Donald Trump's Scientific Advisory Council on UAP (Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena), has revealed she welcomes the release of military files relating to unexplained incidents but she wants the government to add more details about each incident so they can be studied more thoroughly by experts.
In a blog posted on SubStack, Vilhauer wrote: "Although the PURSUE [ Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters] website provides some general context and explains that the materials represent unresolved cases, it provides very little information for understanding individual files or incidents.
"Without that information, there is no real way to tell what is being seen and people are left to come up with their own explanations.
"This kind of situation creates the perfect scenario for misinformation to fill the gaps and existing views to become even more polarized.
"Those who are inclined to believe the objects are signs of non-human intelligence (NHI) will argue that they provide proof, while skeptics will continue to believe there is nothing worth seeing.
"People in the middle are likely to become more confused or simply grow bored and disengage."
She went on to explain more details won't compromise US national security but they could help more people understand the unexplained incidents - and potentially solve them.
Vilhauer wrote: "If scientists can’t make sense of what is being released, what good is the data doing the average person?
"Don’t get me wrong, I wholeheartedly support these releases and want to see more, but transparency without context isn’t really transparency.
"At minimum, each file should provide enough context to explain what analysis or investigation was conducted, what prevented investigators from reaching a conclusion. If there is missing data, it should be clear whether it was never collected or why it is being withheld ...
"Explanations reduce anxiety even when they do not provide certainty. It doesn’t require revealing every detail. The general public understands the need to protect national security.
"Providing context also wouldn’t mean the government is telling the public what to believe. It would simply allow people to evaluate the material more accurately."
