For Samantha Busch, returning to the microphone was never going to be as simple as recording another podcast episode.
Nearly five months after the death of her husband, NASCAR champion Kyle Busch, Samantha returned to her “Certified Oversharer” podcast on Friday, Oct. 16. It was her first episode since losing Kyle in May, and she spoke candidly about the difficulty of moving forward while raising their two children, Brexton and Lennix.
The episode arrived just one week after NASCAR gathered at Charlotte Motor Speedway for Kyle’s Celebration of Life, where Samantha delivered an emotional tribute to her husband in front of thousands of fans.
Now, she’s beginning to think about what comes next.
Samantha Busch Shares Plans to Honor Kyle’s Legacy
During the podcast, Samantha discussed several ideas she hopes to pursue in Kyle’s memory, including an annual day honoring the two-time Cup Series champion.
“I want to make 8/18 a national day,” she said, referring to the number that combines Kyle’s familiar No. 8 and No. 18 race cars.
She also expressed interest in organizing a race on that date, giving their children and the NASCAR community an opportunity to celebrate Kyle’s life each year.
Another idea involves helping young drivers who have the talent to succeed but lack the financial resources to advance their careers.
Samantha spoke about creating a program that could offer aspiring racers a handful of NASCAR Truck Series starts, allowing them to gain experience and potentially attract sponsors.
It’s an idea with a personal connection. Kyle Busch Motorsports became one of the Truck Series’ most successful organizations while helping develop drivers who eventually reached the Cup Series.
Samantha also discussed a potential traveling exhibit honoring Kyle’s career, along with plans involving the Bundle of Joy Fund, the nonprofit the couple founded to help families facing infertility.
For now, those projects remain goals rather than finalized announcements.
Samantha Busch Opens Up About Taking Life One Day at a Time
Samantha’s return followed an especially difficult stretch for the Busch family.
At Charlotte on Oct. 9, she stood before thousands of NASCAR fans to remember Kyle. Their son, Brexton, later honored his father with a burnout in Kyle’s race car, while Lennix participated in the tribute.
On her podcast, Samantha reflected on how overwhelming the celebration had been, including the moment Kyle’s recorded voice played over the speedway’s speakers.
But she also acknowledged that some of the hardest moments come away from the crowds and ceremonies, during ordinary family milestones that Kyle is no longer there to share.
That reality has shaped how she’s approaching both her personal life and her future projects.
“I’m just kind of doing what I’m comfortable with day by day,” Samantha said.
She made no commitment to a regular podcast schedule, describing the episode as an initial return rather than a full relaunch.
For Samantha, honoring Kyle’s legacy and finding her own way forward are closely connected. Friday’s episode offered a glimpse of both, without pretending either process will happen overnight.
