The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has opened the registration process for its online diploma programme in the teaching of science at the middle stage. The programme is primarily designed for educators teaching Science to students in Classes 6 to 8 and aims to strengthen their understanding of scientific concepts, improve instructional methods and equip them with resources to make classroom learning more effective. Interested and eligible candidates can submit their applications online until November 12, 2026, through the designated portal, ncertx.in. The 40-week diploma programme is scheduled to begin on November 16, 2026, and will conclude on August 31, 2027. Candidates seeking admission will have to pay an enrolment fee of ₹2,000 to participate in the course.
The online diploma programme has been developed by NCERT’s Department of Education in Science and Mathematics (DESM), New Delhi, with a focus on improving the quality of science education at the middle-school level. It seeks to help teachers develop both subject-specific knowledge and the pedagogical competencies needed to explain scientific concepts effectively to students. Through the programme, educators will gain access to illustrative examples and learning materials that can support them in preparing lessons, organising classroom activities and delivering scientific concepts in a more accessible manner.
The programme will be conducted entirely online, allowing participating teachers to access the course without attending in-person classes. Enrolled candidates will be required to devote approximately six to eight hours every week to their studies and related learning activities. The course structure comprises 40 modules, with a new module scheduled to become available every Monday. Participants will be expected to complete each module within the designated week to maintain progress throughout the programme. The entire module sequence, along with the final examination, will be covered during the 40-week course period.
