No hairstyle made bigger waves this summer than Mika Abdalla's “Allie-Cat Cut” in Amazon's breakout series, Off Campus.
Aptly named after Abdalla's character, the “Allie-Cat Cut” echoes Allie Hayes' effortless confidence with shaggy layers of tousled brunette waves with golden blonde highlights that had fans swooning for more than just hot hockey players. However, not long after production wrapped on season two, hair colorist Miichelle Sharma revealed that Abdalla has officially ditched her character's blonde ribbons for a double-chocolate brunette that's perfect for fall.
Abdalla's fall refresh enhances her brunette base by darkening her root and replacing those golden ribbons with warm brunette tones for lived-in dimension. “Mika can pull off just about anything, but I think this color really complements her soft features and skin tone,” says Sharma, who works out of Lure Salon in Vancouver. “She has incredible depth and richness, but there’s still that subtle reflection of light that makes it feel so alive and beautiful.”
For Glamour, Miichelle Shrama broke down all the details of Mika Abdalla's double-chocolate brunette hair—and explained exactly how to ask for the look at the salon.
What is double-chocolate hair?
Sharma describes Abdalla's hair as a “tone-on-tone, dimensional brunette” featuring a deep chocolate shade with warm undertones and “very subtle” highlights in a slightly lighter brunette shade.
“I started by applying her roots at a level slightly darker than her natural color,” Sharma says. “Since she had existing highlights from Off Campus, I used a filler color to add back the warmth that was lost when lifting her hair to her previous golden blonde. Once that processed, I finished with an all-over toner at a level 6 neutral to lock in that rich, dimensional brunette using all Goldwell color.”
How to get double-chocolate hair at the salon:
Sharma recommends asking your stylist “for a rich, dimensional chocolate brunette with warm brown undertones" with soft-face framing and “very subtle lighter ribbons" through the mid-lengths and ends. To keep the look “seamless” and tailored to you, Sharma suggests telling your stylist to “maintain some natural dimension through the base while strategically adding brightness, particularly around the face.”
What's the upkeep like?
Sharma says embracing deeper shades is not just a natural way to transition from summer to fall vibes, but a wise choice to preserve the health of your hair. “It gives the hair a much-needed break from frequent lightening,” she says of the look, which requires far less upkeep for natural brunettes.
“It’s a very low-maintenance color,” she says. “With the darker, blended roots and rich brown shade on healthy, nourished hair, it can easily last up to six weeks before needing a refresh gloss. If your hair is more porous or compromised from previous lightening, it might require glossing a bit more frequently and a tailored home-care routine to keep it healthy.”

Okay, but what about her cut and Victoria's Secret-style blowout?
Sharma suggests asking for “long butterfly layers” and curtain bangs, finishing off the look with a voluminous blowout.
“For the finish, I blow-dried her hair using a medium-sized round brush and a cocktail of Oribe products,” Sharma says. “I used Supershine Light Moisturizing Cream, Crème for Style, and a touch of Gold Lust Restorative Hair Crème for extra protection and nourishment, then finished it all off with Impermeable Anti-Humidity Spray to lock in the volume and shine.”
