A fire at a factory of Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals in Shafipur, Kaliakair, Gazipur, was brought under control around 6pm today (17 October) after nearly two hours of firefighting efforts.
The fire broke out around 4pm on the ground floor of the six-storey factory, in the store of its bottle and herbal section. It quickly spread to several nearby rooms within the facility.
Factory workers and local residents initially tried to extinguish the blaze, joined by the firefighting team of the neighbouring Knit Asia factory.
Two units from Kaliakair Fire Station reached the scene around 4:15pm and began firefighting operations. As the fire intensified, two more units from Konabari Fire Station and another two from Gazipur Chowrasta Fire Station joined the operation.
A total of six Fire Service units worked together to bring the fire under control.
Ishtiaq Ahmed, station officer of Kaliakair Fire Station, and Md Talha Bin Jasim of the Fire Service and Civil Defence Directorate's media cell said the units began work soon after receiving the information and brought the fire under control around 6pm.
One worker was reportedly injured in the incident.
The officials could not immediately confirm the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage. Further details will be provided after an investigation, they said.
The facility houses the company's natural medicine manufacturing plant and a finished goods warehouse, Company Secretary Kabir Hossain confirmed to The Business Standard.
"We learned of the fire at the factory after 4pm. According to the latest information, the fire is now under control. In addition to the Fire Service personnel, workers from a neighbouring garment factory also helped bring the fire under control," he said.
The extent of the damage has not yet been determined, Kabir added. A team from the company's head office will visit the site on Sunday to assess the losses.
