Talks over Harry Kane’s next Bayern Munich contract are “going well”, head coach Vincent Kompany has said with the England captain closing in on a fresh deal.
The 33-year-old has entered the final season of his current deal with the Bundesliga champions, but has always stated his intention to remain at the club.
Kane has scored a remarkable 154 goals in 156 games for Bayern since he made the move from Tottenham in 2023, and is the favourite to win the coveted Ballon d’Or later this month.
And speaking ahead of Bayern’s next match against Leipzig on Saturday, Kompany was asked for any developments on Kane’s contract negotiations.
“Talks are going well, but there is still nothing to announce,” he said.
Kane scored twice in Bayern’s 3-3 Champions League group draw at Norwegian side Viking on Tuesday. The German side were reduced to 10 men after Michael Olise was sent off for two bookable offences.
“We’ve discussed things and it’s been dealt with internally,” Kompany said of Olise’s red card which means he will be suspended for the visit of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal next week. “For us, it’s done.”
Bayern are two points off the championship pace after drawing two of their five matches so far.
Looking ahead to Saturday’s contest at the Allianz Arena, with Leipzig just two points behind them in the table, Kompany said: “We want to attack. We’re playing at home. We’re hungry.
“We know about Leipzig’s strengths. You can see they’ve made a few changes. It’s helped the team. They’re coming here with confidence.
“We’ve had 50 shots on goal over the last two games. We’ve been doing lots of collective things well. If we do a few things better, then we’re not far off our best version. We know we can do it.”
Veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is a doubt for the visit of Leipzig with a foot injury.
