No. 14 Tennessee (5-1, 2-1 SEC) will host No. 7 Alabama (5-1, 3-1 SEC) on Saturday in Week 7 of the football season. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. EDT at Neyland Stadium (ABC).
Saturday's game will mark the first time since 1970 that Tennessee and Alabama will both wear their home jerseys since Oct. 17, 1970. Through a two-year agreement between both school administrations and staffs, the teams will wear orange and crimson jerseys.
The 2027 contest will mark the first time orange jerseys will be worn at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
On Oct. 17, 1970, Tennessee shut out the Crimson Tide, 24-0, at Neyland Stadium. The win was the Vols' first shutout victory over Alabama since 1950.
Tennessee, led by head coach Bill Battle, a former three-year starter for the Crimson Tide, recorded eight interceptions in the contest, including three by Tim Priest. Jackie Walker also had one interception return for a touchdown.
Battle served as the Vols' head coach from 1970-76, compiling a 59-22-2 record. He guided Tennessee to three top 10 finishes. Battle served as Alabama's athletics director from 2013-17.
In his first season at Tennessee, Battle led the Vols to a 11-1 record (4-1 SEC). Tennessee defeated Air Force, 34-13, in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1, 1971. The Vols won their final nine games of the season and finished with a No. 4 national ranking in both the AP and Coaches Poll.
