Harriot
European$$
A pro team brings fresh bistro energy downtown.
What a pedigree. The siblings include Tipo 00 and Osteria Ilaria. The chef came up through Embla and London’s revered Lyle’s. The wine guy won this Guide’s sommelier award last year. No wonder Harriot hums. Settle in with a mini martini served with a snack: a rye tartlet of lush porcini mayo and cured tuna is one of three combos.
Sweet heirloom beets under a dusting of goat’s cheese complement bitter radicchio as an entree. Aylesbury duck, tender and pink from the wood oven, sits atop velvety celeriac puree with chard for bite and cumquat for bright pops.
Whole flounder, a list of amari, farmhouse cheese: this low-lit restaurant is European in flavour and looks, with rust-coloured banquettes, close tables and woody detailing completing the scene. The newest member of this restaurant family is worthy of a warm welcome.
Good to know: The desirable corner booth, which seats up to six, is table 10.
