KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians in France have been advised to report their whereabouts to the Malaysian embassy, following demonstrations in several major cities.
Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said the ministry is closely monitoring the situation.
"We advise Malaysians in Paris, as well as those currently on holiday or visiting the city, to report their whereabouts to the diplomatic mission.
"The consular officials are also receiving complaints from the Malaysian community who are worried about the whereabouts of their families and employees travelling to Paris," he said.
He said this after launching the Symposium on the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP): Prosperity Through Partnership today.
A wave of large-scale riots and protests has swept several European nations, culminating in violent clashes in major cities including Paris and Milan, Italy.
The crisis was reportedly triggered by widespread anger over student welfare issues, deteriorating public services, and the rising cost of living, marking some of the worst violence the country has seen in decades.
On Oct 18, the Foreign Ministry said no Malaysians have been reported involved or adversely affected by the situation.
Malaysians planning to travel to France who have yet to register are encouraged to do so via the ministry's e-Konsular platform at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my.
