SEOUL, Oct. 19 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung held a meeting with World Bank Group President Ajay Banga on Monday and discussed ways to boost cooperation in various areas, including artificial intelligence (AI) and energy, Seoul's presidential office said.
The meeting at Cheong Wa Dae came as Banga is visiting South Korea to attend the Global AI and Digital Summit, to be held Tuesday by the World Bank Group in partnership with South Korea's finance and science ministries.
At the opening of the meeting, Lee expressed hope for increased global cooperation on AI.
"We highly appreciate the global contributions the World Bank has made so far, and we will try to make greater contributions to what the bank does," Lee told Banga.
The World Bank chief stressed that his visit to South Korea was also aimed at discussing how to promote industrial development through meetings with the president, South Korean government and corporate officials, so as to create jobs and mobilize private-sector resources.
