The Dallas Cowboys have struggled to find consistency in the 2026 NFL season. Still, owner Jerry Jones says he is confident in the team’s direction, even with the disappointing start.
Dallas is 2-3 after five games, so the team has work to do if it wants to turn things around. Still, Jones thinks the Cowboys are in a better spot now than they were at this point in past seasons.
When Jones appeared on 105.3 The Fan, an interviewer asked what grade fans would give him for the team’s performance. He pointed to the Cowboys’ record and then shared why he feels optimistic about where the team stands now.

“Our grade speaks for itself. We’re 2-3,” Jones said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic on X. “What I would tell you is, I like where we are today as opposed to this time last year or, frankly, this time the year before.”
Jones’ comments suggest he still thinks the Cowboys have reasons to be hopeful, even with their early struggles. But with a 2-3 record, Dallas needs to improve if it wants to stay in the playoff race.
The Cowboys entered the season with high expectations, but their slow start has led some fans to question their progress. While Jones remains confident, Dallas must now translate that optimism into wins.
Since the season is still young, the Cowboys have time to fix their mistakes and play more consistently. The next few weeks will be important for building momentum and climbing the NFC.
By comparing this season to previous ones, Jones highlights progress beyond wins and losses. Still, most Cowboys fans will judge progress by how the team performs from here on out.
Now, Dallas needs to back up its owner’s confidence by playing better and showing that the 2-3 start was just a bump in the road.
