Clients of BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) bought $29.86 million worth of Bitcoin on a trading day in October 2026. Headlines rounded it to $30 million.
The figure is a net inflow. It measures money coming into the fund minus money leaving it. When that number is positive, the fund generally needs more Bitcoin to back the new shares investors are buying.
A quiet day for a very loud fund
On October 19, 2026, IBIT recorded a single-day inflow of $665.2 million, surpassing the inflows of the other Bitcoin ETFs combined.
IBIT has gathered more than $65 billion in cumulative net inflows since it launched in January 2024.
US spot Bitcoin ETFs held approximately $105 billion to $107 billion in assets as of mid-October 2026. IBIT’s share of that total is around 62%. The fund frequently accounts for over half of all Bitcoin ETF flows on a given day.
What a spot Bitcoin ETF actually does
A spot Bitcoin ETF is a fund that holds real Bitcoin and trades on a regular stock exchange. Investors buy shares through a normal brokerage account. The SEC approved spot Bitcoin ETFs, allowing investment firms to offer clients exposure to Bitcoin without the need for direct custody. Creations of shares are backed by actual Bitcoin purchases or redemptions.
The market backdrop
Bitcoin traded between $78,700 and $85,000 during early to mid October 2026, reflecting relative stability amid broader volatility.
What this means for investors and competitors
IBIT’s cumulative total of more than $65 billion was built from many sessions across its roughly two-and-a-half years of trading. With one fund holding around 62% of category assets and often capturing more than half of daily flows, IBIT’s daily flow numbers function as a shorthand for institutional sentiment toward Bitcoin. According to the research, competitors may need to innovate or offer more attractive products to hold their share.
