Anticipation is high ahead of the second and decisive phase of the third Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service Volleyball Premier League, starting on October 15, 2026, at the Indoor Sports Hall, Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The two-week showdown, running through October 30, will settle the championship race following a fiercely contested opening phase that concluded on June 27.
At the summit of the women’s standings, Nigeria Customs leads with 34 points, holding a razor-thin one-point cushion over the NSCDC Spikers (33 points). Customs also lead the men’s table with 36 points, ahead of the Spikers in second with 29.
A major talking point heading into the home stretch is the impact of overseas-based professionals. The historic clearance allowing over 20 Nigerian stars plying their trade in Asia, Europe, and North Africa to represent local clubs dramatically elevated the league’s intensity. However, potential absences of some foreign-based players for the run-in are expected to pave the way for tactical shifts and upsets.
Organisers commended the CGC management for its unflinching investment, which provided teams with top-tier equipment and boosted morale. Meanwhile, flawless officiating driven by elite international and senior referees has been widely lauded for maintaining high competitive standards without disputes.
As clubs fine-tune strategies for the Abuja showdown, consistency and squad depth will ultimately decide who lifts the coveted titles.
