When it comes to lingerie, I’m a firm believer that the foundations matter. For everyday underwear, M&S has long been my go-to for bras that fit properly and knickers that feel good. And it seems I’m not alone: according to M&S, its bras are sold is sold every two seconds. But when it comes to something a little more indulgent, I’ve traditionally looked toluxury lingerielabels. That was until the new M&S x Coco de Mer collection made a rather convincing case for keeping your lingerie drawer firmly within the high street.
With prices starting at £15 and topping out at £55, the new M&S x Coco de Mer collaboration is the kind of high street fashion find I love to share. It’s giving luxury lingerie without the designer price tag, and honestly, my lingerie drawer is already making room. Bringing together M&S’s trusted expertise in fit and quality with Coco de Mer’s signature sensual aesthetic, the 24-piece collection is less about the underwear you need and more about the lingerie you didn’t know you wanted. Delicate lace, sumptuous satin, intricate embroidery and boudoir-inspired silhouettes that feel a little more special than your everyday essentials. If you’ve been looking for an excuse to upgrade your underwear drawer, this might just be it.
If Coco de Mer isn’t already on your radar, allow me to introduce you. Founded in London in 2001 by Samantha Roddick, daughter of The Body Shop founder Anita Roddick, the luxury lingerie brand has spent more than two decades championing female pleasure and sensuality through beautifully crafted lingerie and intimate accessories. Its designs have always had that more indulgent feel, and now, thanks to M&S, you can get a taste of that aesthetic without spending luxury-label prices.
The collection is divided into four distinct ranges, each with its own mood. Belle is for the romantic at heart, with balcony bras, Brazilian knickers and robes finished with black or crimson eyelash lace. Siren takes a more seductive approach, pairing deep midnight-blue satin with fauna-inspired embroidery and peekaboo detailing. If you prefer your lingerie with a little drama, Enigma is worth a look, thanks to its boudoir-inspired designs and decadent basque with opulent gold-foil detailing. Then there’s Reverie, which makes a strong case for swapping your usual black set for rich dark-green embroidery, with a high-neck plunge bra and a sumptuous body among the standout pieces.
Fronting the campaign is London-born Alva Claire, whose confidence and charisma perfectly capture the collection’s modern, self-assured mood. The idea is that lingerie should be chosen for how it makes you feel, rather than anyone else’s expectations, and I’m very much here for that. Sometimes, a beautiful new set is all the wardrobe refresh you need.
There’s also a welcome focus on inclusivity, with the collection available in bra sizes 30–42 A–H and clothing sizes XS–XL. As Lucy Litwack, CEO of Coco de Mer, explains, 'The fact that we could have a more inclusive size range with our collaboration was really special because we want to reach more women with our mission to shine a light on female pleasure and empower women to feel their best.'
Ultimately, the appeal is pretty simple. Lingerie doesn’t have to be saved for a special occasion, a romantic evening or anyone else. From a delicate lace set beneath your favourite outfit to a satin bra or embroidered body that makes you feel incredible, these are pieces to buy for yourself, just because.
