If Bulgaria's presidential election had been held in mid-October, 43.4% of voters would have backed incumbent President Iliana Iotova and her running mate Kiril Valchev, according to a nationally representative survey conducted by polling agency Myara for Bulgarian National Radio.
Former caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov and Georgi Kandev would have received 28.9%, followed by Vazrazhdane party leader Kostadin Kostadinov and Petar Volgin on 10.2%.
The other candidate pairs trail well behind: Ivelin Mihaylov and Yuliana Mateeva on 3.1%, Radostin Vasilev and Krasimir Manov on 2.9%, and Ivan Hristanov and Stoyanka Cherkezova on 1.9%. Another 2.5% of respondents said they would choose the "None of the above" option on the ballot.
"These figures are a snapshot of voter preferences in mid-October. Hundreds of thousands of adult Bulgarians have yet to make up their minds," the pollsters said.
Projected voter turnout stands at 39.4%, slightly higher than in previous surveys.
