The Oyo State House of Assembly has mourned the death of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Abidakun Oluwatosin, who was reportedly crushed to death by an articulated truck in Ibadan on Monday.
Oluwatosin had only recently resumed her primary assignment at the Assembly before the fatal accident, which occurred around Agodi Gardens, behind the Oyo State Government Secretariat.
She was reportedly returning home after work alongside another corps member who had also recently resumed service at the Assembly when the incident occurred.
The two corps members were riding on the same motorcycle when an articulated truck rammed into them, killing Oluwatosin and injuring her colleague, who is currently receiving medical attention at a hospital.
Reacting to the incident, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, expressed deep sorrow over the death of the young corps member, describing it as a painful and devastating loss.
Ogundoyin lamented that Oluwatosin’s life had been cut short just as she began her national service, with hopes and aspirations for the future.
He described her death as a loss to her family, friends, colleagues and the Assembly, where she had only recently commenced her service year.
The Speaker extended his condolences to the bereaved family, friends and fellow corps members, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear the loss.
He also expressed concern over the condition of the surviving corps member and prayed for her speedy and complete recovery.
