South Bend Adams High School head football coach Frank Karczewski is "away from the team," as confirmed to the South Bend Tribune by Adams High School principal Jim Seitz via phone call. Seitz did not specify why Karczewski was not with the team right now.
The news was first reported by Chuck Freeby of Sports Michiana Saturday, Oct. 24.
Former South Bend Clay head coach and current Adams assistant Craig Redman will act as the Eagles' head coach on Friday, Oct. 30, at School Field in an IHSAA 5A sectional semifinal vs. Concord. Karczewski is 13-36 in five seasons with Adams, including a 5-4 record so far in 2026.
Karczewski did not respond when the Tribune initially reached out for a comment.

Redman, who also spent five years as the Eagles' head coach from 2011-15, has a combined head coaching record of 26-36. Should Redman lead Adams to a victory against the Minutemen (4-5), it would advance to a sectional championship game Friday, Nov. 6 vs. the winner of LaPorte (2-7) vs. Goshen (2-7). The Eagles have never won a sectional championship in football.
"Our goal is to move forward the best we can and create a good environment for our kids," Seitz said. "The focus right now is on trying to beat Concord."
