In a video captured Thursday evening, October 15, Oburu addressed those present from his hospital bed.
The day doubled as his 83rd birthday and the first anniversary of his brother Raila Odinga's passing.
Visibly tired and frail, Oburu spoke while dressed in a white hospital robe, with his two wives, other family members, and medical personnel gathered around him. The precise nature of his illness has not been disclosed.
He expressed gratitude to the medical team attending to him and his staff that have kept him company throughout his hospitalisation, and indicating that his recovery is progressing.
"I want to thank the (hospital) administration. I also thank the staff, particularly the, the nursing staff and of course my doctors who are obviously attached to me and close to me. And also my staff who work for me, in security particularly," he said.

Weeks of Speculation Over Oburu's Health
The senator was admitted to The Nairobi Hospital on October 4, shortly after returning from the United Kingdom on September 25, where he had spent nearly three weeks receiving medical attention.
His hospitalisation triggered a wave of speculation on social media, including false rumours of his death, which he addressed directly through an official statement on his social media pages, criticising those spreading such claims.
His condition also prevented him from attending the October 7 commissioning of the mausoleum of his late brother, a government-funded project unveiled by President William Ruto.
Oburu conveyed his apologies while acknowledging the president's role in delivering the project.
Raila Odinga's First Death Anniversary
As earlier hinted at, Oburu's statement coincided with the first anniversary of the death Raila, who passed away on October 15, 2025, aged 80, in India after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest during his morning walk.
His remains were flown back to Kenya on October 16, 2025, with Ruto authorising a state funeral with full military honours and seven days of national mourning. He was buried on October 19, with the Kenya Defence Forces conducting a 17-gun salute in his honour.
ODM organised a month-long series of commemorative events in October under the programme "Mwezi wa Baba," with the memorial climax held on October 15 in Bondo, where Raila is buried.
