The Taliban government in Afghanistan has suspended radio broadcasts by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), citing repeated regulatory violations, Reuters reported. A BBC spokesperson said the broadcaster is holding discussions with Afghan authorities to resume its radio services.
"Millions of people across Afghanistan rely on the BBC for trusted news and information. We are working with officials to resolve the situation," the spokesperson stated.
Khabib Ghufran, spokesperson for the Taliban government's Ministry of Information and Culture, said BBC operations were suspended due to repeated violations of regulations. However, he did not specify which rules had been violated. The suspension comes amid restrictions introduced by the Taliban since returning to power in Afghanistan in 2021.
Earlier, Taliban authorities banned men from sewing women's clothing in Kandahar province, resulting in some tailors losing their jobs and facing additional economic difficulties.
Since 2021, the Taliban has also imposed restrictions on women, including limitations on participation in sports, employment in various sectors and long-distance travel without a male relative.
