'Debibi United pitch is meant for cassava plantation, not football'— Petros Koukoura

Bibiani Gold Stars head coach Petros Koukouras has criticised the condition of the Debibi Presby Park pitch following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Debibi United in the Ghana Premier League last weekend.

The Gold Stars coach questioned the suitability of the playing surface ahead of his team’s Matchweek 8 encounter against Heart of Lions at DUN’s Park, insisting that the condition of the pitch made it difficult to focus on football.

Debibi United claimed victory in the Matchweek 7 fixture on Sunday, 18 October 2026, thanks to Maxwell Agyemang’s goal just before half-time.

The result ended Debibi United’s three-match winless run and lifted them out of the relegation zone, taking them level with Gold Stars on seven points.

Reflecting on the defeat, Koukouras expressed his dissatisfaction with the playing conditions at Debibi Presby Park, suggesting that the surface was not suitable for a football match.

“We cannot discuss football. I don’t think this is a pitch designated for football. Maybe it is designated for cassava plantation. I don’t have anything else to say,” he said.

His remarks come as Gold Stars turn their attention to their next league assignment against Heart of Lions, where they will be hoping to respond to the setback and return to winning ways.

The defeat to Debibi United leaves the Bibiani-based side with work to do as they seek to improve their position in the league standings.

Koukouras will be looking for a better performance from his players at DUN’s Park, with the team aiming to put last weekend’s disappointment behind them and secure a positive result.

Meanwhile, Debibi United will seek to build on their important victory when they travel to face Bechem United in their next league fixture.

The outcome of the Matchweek 7 encounter has given the newly promoted side renewed confidence as they attempt to maintain their progress in the top flight.
