Izzy Engle scored twice to lead No. 17 Notre Dame to a 2-0 win over No. 15 Florida State, snapping the Seminoles' three-game winning streak on Saturday, Oct. 24.
In front of a sold-out Seminole Soccer Complex, the Irish jumped ahead thanks to Engle's first goal of the night in the 15th minute. After the Irish (7-1-6) picked up a loose ball, Engle made a darting run across the FSU (7-2-3) backline before she fired her strike past Kate Ockene in goal.
It gave Notre Dame the 1-0 lead, which it would carry into halftime as the Seminoles did not register a shot in the half. It's the second time this season that FSU has been held without a shot in the first half, joining the 0-0 tie against Louisville.
While the shot statistic improved for FSU in the second half, six total, with more sustained pressure, the story remained much the same.
And it didn't take long for Notre Dame to double its lead.
Engle scored her second of the match just 47 seconds into the half. The Seminoles failed to properly clear the area after a corner kick, and after the ball pin-balled around the penalty box, it fell to Engle, who poked her right foot at the ball and rolled it past Ockene.
The Seminoles had opportunities, but the final product lacked a finishing touch, and it left FSU without a goal for only the second time this season.
