FIDESZ believes that Péter Magyar and the TISZA government are continuing to squeeze Hungarian companies out of the Hungarian construction and transportation sectors so that foreign companies can take their place. The opposition party’s parliamentary caucus responded in a statement to the government’s decision to suspend the Southern Circular Railway project and exclude V-Híd—a company linked to Hungarian businessman Lőrinc Mészáros—from the ongoing railway construction work.
“This is how Péter Magyar and the TISZA Party are paying for campaign contributions. This is what is happening with the Southern Circular Railway, and this is what will happen with every major investment project,” the statement reads. According to FIDESZ, the government is seeking, in collaboration with the bureaucracy in Brussels and under the pretext of alleged abuses,
to exclude from every Hungarian investment project those companies that represent the independence of the Hungarian economy.
The goal is to hand over the implementation of these projects to foreign economic interests. This is happening with the highways, and it is also happening with the most significant railway development in Budapest in the past hundred years, they added, reads the statement from FIDESZ.
The construction of the Southern Circular Railway has already required a great deal of patience from those living near the construction site. It is now uncertain whether the project will be completed at all, and if so, how many years the development will be delayed or postponed.
FIDESZ maintains that the Southern Circular Railway is necessary, whether or not the EU provides funding,
they emphasized.
“Dávid Vitézy (Minister of Transportation and Investment—editor’s note) is very familiar with the details of the public procurement process, as he was a member of the supervisory board of the National Infrastructure Development Corporation (NIF Zrt.), which issued the tender, in 2021. The supervisory board approved the public procurement. At the time, it was not suspicious; at the time, it was not unlawful. Now that the project must be organized abroad, it has suddenly become so. The re-colonization of Hungary is in full swing, and Dávid Vitézy is personally responsible for it,” the FIDESZ parliamentary group stated in its press release.
Fact
Another major Hungarian construction company, Bayer Construct, has also faced serious difficulties following a government decision. As Hungary Today reported, the company filed for bankruptcy in August 2026 after the TISZA government withdrew from a 324 billion forint (EUR 894 million) agreement to purchase an office complex in Budapest’s Zugló district, demanding the repayment of 315 billion forints (EUR 869 million) already paid during construction. The upgrades include advanced defibrillators, Doppler devices, ECG machines, and IT infrastructure.Continue reading
