Kennesaw State hopes to overcome a four-loss streak against Missouri State on Wednesday as two teams wallowing in the Conference USA depths collide. Each team carries a 1-4 overall record to Plaster Stadium and is hoping to record its first conference victory of the season.
Second-year coach Jerry Mack took the owls to a dramatic 41-34 triumph over the Bears when these sides met in Georgia last season. Casey Woods has failed to build much momentum in his debut year as a head coach thus far and is still seeking his maiden win over an FBS school – the same as KSU so far this year.
The Bears are back at Plaster Stadium for the first time in nearly a month, hoping to claw the Owls down to size for the first time in their series at the third time of asking. Missouri State started this year all wrong after losing 50-0 to Texas A&M, however, and has conceded 30 points or more in all but one game to date.
Kennesaw State’s defense has crossed that boundary just twice in five, meanwhile, and is coming off a bitter loss to Jacksonville State after a go-ahead field goal with less than a minute left. Junior quarterback Rickie Collins leads the roster with four rushing touchdowns this term but has as many touchdown passes as he does interceptions (three).
