The new Boyne Link Road in Drogheda officially opened this week providing access to local businesses, safer routes for pedestrians and cyclists, and an improvement to traffic flow in the area.
Funded by Louth County Council, the National Transport Authority and the Department of Transport, the road connects the Newtown Link Road with Boyne Business Park and the adjacent L-2307.
The scheme features a two-way carriageway, public footpaths and street lighting built to current road standards.
Designed to improve connectivity and support economic activity, the new link road is expected to ease traffic on the existing L-2307 while providing a safer and more accessible route for those travelling on foot or by bicycle to nearby workplaces.
Welcoming the project’s completion, Drogheda Mayor Cllr Declan Power said: “The new Boyne Link Road is a very positive development for Drogheda. This new connection will make it easier for people to access local businesses and employment centres, while also creating a safer route for pedestrians and cyclists,” he said.
“Investment in infrastructure like this helps support economic growth, improves connectivity and enhances the quality of life for people living and working in the area. I am delighted to see this project completed and open for public use.”
David Jones, Director of Services for Major Capital Projects and Infrastructure Delivery, described the scheme as an important investment in the town’s infrastructure.
“The Boyne Link Road is an important piece of infrastructure that will improve access to key employment areas while enhancing safety and connectivity for all road users,” he said.
“The completion of this scheme reflects the Council’s ongoing commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports sustainable growth and meets the needs of local communities and businesses.”
