The Ravens are preparing for a quarterback who has shown early in the season that last year’s injury hasn't diminished his ability to lead Cincinnati’s offense.
Joe Burrow enters Sunday’s matchup in Baltimore with 71.4% completion, 1,361 yards, and 11 touchdowns through five games. His 104.4 passer rating underscores the challenge awaiting a Ravens team trying to rebound from its loss in Cleveland.
Cincinnati also arrives rested after its bye, with extra time to prepare a defense that must account for Ja’Marr Chase without leaving easy answers elsewhere. Baltimore’s priority should be disrupting Burrow’s timing. If he can establish a steady rhythm on early downs, the Bengals will face manageable third downs and limit the impact of the Ravens’ pass rush.
The challenge is generating pressure without creating the openings Cincinnati wants. Extra rushers can force quicker decisions, but they also leave fewer defenders in coverage. Baltimore needs its rush and coverage to work together, especially when Burrow identifies pressure before the snap.
Chase will command attention, but the Ravens cannot build their entire plan around one receiver. Tight end Mike Gesicki has already caught four touchdown passes through five games, giving Cincinnati another established scoring option.
Baltimore’s offense can help by sustaining drives and avoiding the extended scoring drought that followed its early success against Cleveland. A game that requires repeated defensive stops becomes more difficult against a quarterback producing at Burrow’s level.
The Ravens do not need to erase Cincinnati’s passing game. They need to force enough incompletions, difficult third downs, and stalled possessions to keep Burrow from controlling the afternoon.
Against a rested division rival, that requires more consistent execution than Baltimore delivered last Sunday.
