BUSAN — Shinpyeong Alley Market in Busan is turning to discount coupons and prize events to revive weak consumer sentiment and draw shoppers.
The Busan Metropolitan Government said on the 12th that it will hold the 2026 Shinpyeong Alley Half-Price Road Festa at the market in Saha District from the 15th to the 17th.
During the event, 5,000-won discount coupons will be handed out on a first-come, first-served basis, two per person, on the hour from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. each day for a total of five rounds. The coupons can be used on purchases of 10,000 won or more, delivering discounts of up to 50% depending on the amount spent.
Shoppers who present a receipt for purchases of 5,000 won or more can join a roulette event in which every spin wins a prize, including toilet paper, rubber gloves and beer coupons. At 7:30 p.m. each day, a drawing will award Onnuri gift certificates (vouchers redeemable at traditional markets) worth 50,000 won.
Visitor programs will also include a traditional arrow-tossing game, a neighborhood singing contest and autumn-themed photo zones. The merchants' association will sell food at Dongmae Plaza, with additional food events held throughout the market. Customers who buy food inside the market will receive free beer coupons.
The city said it aims to encourage visits to and spending at traditional markets through the event. "We will continue to pursue a range of consumption-boosting programs that make the revitalization of traditional markets tangible," said Park Dong-seok, director general of the city's Citizens' Economy Bureau.
