KUALA LUMPUR: The BYD Seal driver involved in a six-vehicle crash that killed a 5-year-old girl along Jalan Kuching on Saturday was brought to the court complex to face three charges.
The 24-year-old man, dressed in a green shirt and handcuffed, was escorted to the magistrate's court by traffic police.
He was arrested yesterday after being discharged from a private hospital, where he had received treatment for a concussion sustained in the crash.
He was detained at the Dang Wangi police headquarters lock-up.
He is expected to face charges under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving, Section 42(1) for reckless and dangerous driving, and Section 52(1) for failing to stop and report an accident.
The crash occurred at 3.44pm on Saturday, killing the girl and injuring her father and a motorcyclist.
Five cars and a motorcycle were involved in the collision.
Initial investigations found that traffic was moving slowly from the city centre towards Segambut when the BYD Seal allegedly rear-ended a Perodua Bezza driven by the girl's 30-year-old father.
The impact sent the Bezza, which also collided with a motorcycle, spinning into the right lane, where it struck three other vehicles: a Nissan Almera, a Toyota Alphard and a Perodua Myvi.
The girl, who was seated in the rear of the Bezza, suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
Her father sustained injuries to his right hand, while the 33-year-old Yamaha 135LC motorcyclist suffered head injuries.
Police later located the BYD Seal driver at the private hospital.
