Kenyan skater Kevin Kiarie Ruhiu has announced his bid for the Roysambu parliamentary seat in the August 10, 2027, General Election.
In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke on Monday, October 12, Ruhiu said he would vie for the seat on a Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) ticket, pledging to address challenges facing the constituency.
He described Roysambu as a cosmopolitan constituency with untapped potential in business, education, infrastructure and healthcare.
Kiarie also pledged to champion the interests of young people and fellow athletes, saying he would work to protect their ambitions from being undermined by what he termed as broken systems.

“I will defend young people and fellow athletes and protect their dreams from broken systems. If elected, I will serve and deliver for Roysambu residents,” he stated.
With his declaration, the skater joins a growing list of aspirants seeking the Roysambu parliamentary seat. They include incumbent Augustine Kamande Kamau of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), former MP Isaac Waihenya Ndirangu of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) and nominated MP Sabina Chege of the Jubilee Party.
Other contenders are Moses Mwenda, who is vying as an independent candidate, and Dr Faith Mwaura, who is seeking the seat on a UDA ticket.
TikTok personality Raymond Omosa, popularly known as Kenyan Prince, has also expressed interest in the seat, although his party affiliation remains unclear.
“I will give Roysambu a voice we have not had for so long. I have received support from Kenyans across the country, and when elected, I will serve everyone without discrimination,” he said.
Kiarie has been in the headlines for a long time and has accused the Ministry of Sports of repeatedly failing to release funds for his international competitions.
The latest dispute follows allegations that the Ministry failed to provide visa assistance, forcing Kiarie to withdraw from the 2026 World Skate Games in Paraguay.
The Ministry has maintained that it has supported him in his endeavours, a claim Kiarie has repeatedly disputed.
