With the NFL heading into Week 7 and the annual trade deadline approaching, many media outlets and social media fans continue to debate what general manager Mike Borgonzi and the Tennessee Titans should do.
At 1-5 with uneven performances through the first six weeks, the Titans are clearly in building mode, and the young team's growing pains have been evident. With that in mind, many, including Sports Illustrated’s Eva Geitheim, believe the Titans should focus on adding future draft capital as November approaches.
Tennessee Titans: Sell
The 1–5 Titans should follow in the footsteps of the Jets last year, when New York dealt players such as Sauce Gardner, Quinnen Williams, and Michael Carter II. They accumulated more than three new first-round picks in these trades and are building a nice, young core. Tennessee should follow suit, as the Titans have plenty to address before they open their new stadium next season. Calvin Ridley, Jermaine Johnson, and Tony Pollard are potential trade candidates, particularly with Johnson and Pollard in the final year of their current contracts.
The Titans being active wouldn’t surprise anyone, and of the players mentioned, only Jermaine Johnson would. Borgonzi and head coach Robert Saleh traded for Johnson early in the offseason, and he has been coming on strong in recent weeks. Sure, he is in the final year of his contract, but if he keeps trending up, he could be re-signed to add stability to the defensive front.
Both Pollard and Ridley make sense, though Ridley sitting out practice Thursday with a hip injury is something to monitor.
