Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the draft of Pakistan’s new Automotive and Auto Parts Manufacturing Policy 2026-31, with the federal cabinet expected to give its final approval soon, sources informed ProPakistani a short while ago.
The five-year policy is intended to set the direction for Pakistan’s automotive industry after the previous policy expired on June 30, 2026. It will now be tabled before the upcoming federal cabinet meeting for implementation.
The delay had created uncertainty for manufacturers, affecting decisions related to production, investment and vehicle prices.
The proposed policy aims to strengthen Pakistan’s automotive industry by increasing local manufacturing, attracting investment and improving competitiveness.
It also seeks to integrate locally manufactured auto parts into international supply chains.
One of the key proposals involves gradually reducing automobile tariffs.
The new framework includes seven principles for transforming the automotive industry, along with export targets to expand Pakistan’s presence in international markets.
