Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Production at Iraq’s Nasiriyah oil field has increased following the official opening of two new wells, a step aimed at enhancing oil production capacity and helping the Ministry of Oil’s attempts to expand domestic supplies.
Sources told Attaqa News that the field is seeing an increase of 10,000 barrels per day following the startup of the two new wells.
The development is part of Iraq’s larger initiative to improve oil field output and maximize the potential for increased production.
The new increase supports the Iraqi Ministry of Oil’s plans to boost output and capitalize on available hydrocarbon resources.
Dhi Qar Oil Company, a subsidiary of the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, has announced the start of operations at two new oil wells at the Nasiriyah field.
The rise in output from the Nasiriyah field highlights the critical role of drilling and development efforts in strengthening Iraq’s oil supplies. This rise aligns with Baghdad’s drive to optimize the utilization of existing fields and ramp up production in line with technical capabilities and available reserves.
The field’s significance extends beyond crude oil; it also produces associated gas, with volumes reaching 30 million standard cubic feet per day, according to the most recent reserve and production data.
The Nasiriyah field, located in southern Iraq’s Dhi Qar province, is considered one of the important oil resources on which Baghdad’s future plans are based, due to its enormous reserves and great but untapped potential.
The field’s significance stems from its geographic location and oil resources; its development could play a pivotal role in bolstering Iraqi production and enhancing economic returns from the energy sector.
According to unofficial estimates, proven reserves at the Nasiriyah field exceed 4.4 billion barrels of crude oil, making it a significant asset capable of supporting Iraq’s plans to boost production.
Production at the field has grown in the past few years, rising from approximately 52,000 barrels per day to 70,000 barrels per day in June 2025—an increase of nearly 30 percent—amid efforts to expand output and capitalize on the field’s resources.
