Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Budi Santoso assured that forest and land fires in several regions have not affected the availability or distribution of staple food supplies in the affected areas.
He added that he had not received any reports of supply disruptions or significant price increases linked to the fires.
“So far, there haven't been any issues. We remain in close contact with our local offices, especially regarding basic necessities. From what I’ve seen, prices also remain relatively stable,” Santoso said in Tangerang District, Banten, on Thursday.
Santoso said the Ministry of Trade had taken proactive measures by contacting retailers and distributors to ensure that stocks remained sufficient and distribution continued smoothly.
He noted that the initiative was intended to directly monitor potential supply disruptions and price changes in markets affected by the fires. Beyond monitoring the availability and prices of goods, the ministry is also closely tracking various market activity.
According to Santoso, there have been no reports of vendors experiencing a decline in customer numbers due to the situation.
He emphasized that monitoring efforts cover not only areas affected by forest and land fires but also markets across Indonesia to anticipate potential distribution disruptions caused by disasters.
One of the tools used by the ministry is the Market and Basic Necessities Monitoring System (SP2KP), which tracks price movements and market supply conditions, enabling the government to identify potential distribution disruptions.
Indonesia continues to tackle forest and land fires across several regions, particularly in Kalimantan and Sumatra.
The government has designated six provinces as priorities for fire management: Central Kalimantan, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Riau, South Sumatra, and Jambi.
