Heavy showers and thundershowers are expected across most parts of Sri Lanka from this evening (Oct. 20), with some areas likely to receive rainfall of around 100 millimeters, the Department of Meteorology said.
The department said the development of an atmospheric disturbance in the lower atmosphere near Sri Lanka is expected to intensify showery conditions across the island.
Showers or thundershowers are likely in most parts of the country after 1 p.m., with heavy rainfall of around 100 mm possible at some locations in the Northern, North Central, Central, Eastern, North Western and Uva provinces.
Showers may also occur in the Northern and North Western provinces during the morning, the department said.
The public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. (Newswire)
