U.S. all-around champion Hezly Rivera medically withdrew from the World Gymnastics Championships, one day before the start of women's competition in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
Rivera, the lone Olympian on the five-woman U.S. team, dealt with left ankle pain in training on Thursday and said she was "day to day." The U.S. had an off day Friday.
Rivera is replaced on the roster by Dulcy Caylor ahead of the U.S.' qualifying session on Sunday at 10 a.m. ET.
The women's team final is Wednesday and all-around final on Friday, followed by individual event finals next Saturday and Sunday.
The U.S. women won the last seven world team titles dating to 2011. At least one U.S. woman made the all-around podium at every Olympics and worlds dating to 2003, a streak of 23 consecutive global championships.
The Rotterdam worlds mark the first global championship with a team competition since the Paris Olympics, where Rivera, then 16, was the youngest U.S. athlete across all sports.
Rivera then won the U.S. all-around title in 2025 and 2026. She sprained the same ankle shortly after the 2025 U.S. Championships, taking her out of the running for the 2025 Worlds.
