Anthony Edwards is ready to settle a debate about his athleticism, and IShowSpeed might have just given the Minnesota Timberwolves star another reason to prove himself.
The exchange took place on Edwards' YouTube channel, where the NBA guard discussed his speed with the popular streamer. What started as a conversation about running quickly soon turned into a potential challenge between two competitors who were unwilling to back down.
...
"The basketball court is not long enough for me to reach my full speed," Edwards said before making his intentions clear.
"Me and you, 40 yards, I like me," the Timberwolves star added.
Speed was not convinced by Edwards' confidence.
"You not fast. You not fast at all, bro," Speed responded. "You can't tell somebody fast. You don't got it in you."
Edwards explained that playing basketball requires him to control his pace rather than run at full speed.
"See, you watch me, when I'm with the basketball, I gotta be smart. I can't be too fast," Edwards said. "But without that ball, oh, you gonna see. I'm gonna show you."
He doubled down on the challenge, adding, "I'm from Missouri. I'm from the Shelby State. I'm gonna show you."
Speed then brought up his own background, saying, "I'm from Ohio Portugal, bro. Ohio Portugal. I grew up racing barefoot on concrete."
Edwards agreed with that experience, responding, "I did too, on the concrete. I'm with you on that. I'm with you when you right."
Speed has built a reputation for teasing celebrities and challenging them to one-on-one races. He has frequently turned these encounters into entertaining competitions, making a potential sprint against Edwards an intriguing prospect.
While neither has confirmed a race, a friendly showdown could be on the cards.
For Edwards, the immediate priority remains the Timberwolves' upcoming season. Minnesota added LaMelo Ball in a blockbuster offseason trade, giving Edwards another high-level playmaker alongside him.
A race with Speed might be entertaining, but the Timberwolves will need their star guard's explosiveness on the court when the regular season begins.
