SOURIS – The body of a P.E.I. man who died while working in the Alberta oilsands near Fort McMurray has been recovered.
The family of Kenneth MacAulay says they learned his body had been recovered on Oct. 13, nine months after the 66-year-old Souris, P.E.I. resident died on the job.
Pamela Grant, MacAulay’s wife, says he worked for Command North, a construction company in northern Alberta contracted by Suncor Energy.
Alberta Occupational Health and Safety says it is investigating a workplace fatality that occurred near Fort McMurray on Jan. 13, the same day as MacAulay’s death, but it did not mention the P.E.I man by name.
It says the worker died while operating equipment that became submerged in muskeg.
A statement from MacAulay’s daughter, Sasha Bruce, describes him as a fierce presence, incredible father figure and devoted husband whose death has left an immeasurable hole in the community.
