Doha (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi and Qatari business executives convened in Doha on October 7 for the Qatar-Iraq Business Forum, where the chambers of commerce from both nations inked an agreement to boost trade and investment relations and form a joint business council.
The meeting, organized by Qatar Chamber, brought together members from the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce (FICC), government officials, and private-sector executives to examine investment potential in Iraq and ways to strengthen bilateral economic collaboration.
The two chambers signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to enhance institutional collaboration and facilitate commercial partnerships between Iraqi and Qatari enterprises.
The anticipated formation of the Iraq-Qatar Business Council is a key component of the agreement, with the goal of linking firms, discovering investment possibilities, and facilitating joint ventures.
The Iraqi delegation, headed by FICC President Amer Khalaf Alawi, comprised delegates from the International Chamber of Commerce in Iraq (ICC Iraq).
Chairman Mohsin Al-Hamid and Secretary General Ahmed Al-Yasiri represented the ICC Iraq delegation.
Other attendees were the Iraqi Prime Minister’s advisor on the Development Road and Railroads, the director general of the Ministry of Trade’s Private Sector Development Department, Iraqi business executives, and Iraq’s Ambassador to Qatar, Mohammed Jaafar Al-Sadr.
The forum included talks on bilateral commerce and Iraq’s Development Road project, which is a proposed transportation and logistics corridor that would link the Gulf with Turkish and European markets via Iraq.
The forum indicates a rising interest in improving Iraq-Qatar economic ties, especially as Baghdad attempts to attract Gulf investment, diversify its economy, and increase private sector activity.
The planned Iraq-Qatar Business Council might help transform conversations into long-term business partnerships.
